Is God the opposite of what we thought he was?

I would suggest a different take on it, you are right God is completely opposite to what we think He is. In fact he has no "human" attributes, but "He" is the laws of Nature. The problem is that people don't know that these laws exist, and that all of the world abides by them, and when we don't we get "punished". It's kind of like a system that always seeks to be in perfect balance, so if something falls out of place it has to be corrected, therefor when humans act against these laws of Nature, we get repercussions, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. So, you can call this God satan or you can call satan god, the point is that it doesn't help the situation. It all comes down to whether we want to align ourselves with these laws or not. You wouldn't call law of gravity "satanic" if you jumped out of a ten story building and found yourself on the ground in very bad shape? It would just be the law of gravity acting upon you. So same goes for "God", there is a system that operates our reality, and because we are not aware of this system we think that it's some kind of mean man in the sky or nice guy in the earth, as you put it when bad or good things happen to us.
